PATIENT PHILOSOPHY

During my years in private practice as a radiologist, I came to experience my greatest professional fulfillment—and personal satisfaction—from helping people understand their medical conditions and offering insights and suggestions that would maximize their opportunities to receive safe, appropriate care—and achieve the peace of mind of being on the correct health care path. I frequently reviewed the results of imaging studies with patients, and it was a natural extension of those interactions that I would be asked "what do I do now?" or "who should I see for that?" It also became clear that many if not most of these people felt that either they weren't listened to by their doctors or that they didn't comprehend what they were told.

Those experiences served to crystallize my commitment to educating and communicating positively with patients. They have enabled me to channel my compassion and empathy to ensure their understanding, bring them peace of mind, enhance their experience as patients and improve their medical outcomes. This revelation of sorts proved to be so rewarding for me and my patients, friends, family and others that I realized something important, perhaps even essential, had disappeared from the practice of medicine. Technology had moved us forward in so many ways, yet those advancements seemingly had somehow superseded and drastically diminished the most basic element of patient care—the interaction between doctor and patient.

I was always taught that if I listened closely to my patients, their words would somehow help lead me to a diagnosis. This truism of medicine has served me well throughout my years in the health care field. Offering patients the right mix of medical knowledge and compassionate support facilitates my finding a solution or directing them to someone who can.

It is very appropriate that my deep-rooted desire to help people is why I went into medicine—and why I've now created iCARE4U in order to serve as a patient advocate. In today's increasingly complicated health care world, people need to know that they are not alone. Having iCARE4U totally focused on your medical issues, and devoted to doing what's best for you, is the right prescription for the proper care as part of a safe and error-free experience that results in your total peace of mind.

It's so comforting to know I'm not alone, that I've found a very special person I can trust to always have my best interests at heart.
